Sarah Farrell and Ricky Hearn were chosen as Hays High School’s Most Valuable Players for the 2011-12 school year and were given their awards at the annual Capital Area Tennis Association’s (CATA) banquet on recently. They were honored with other Austin area tennis players chosen by their middle schools, high schools and club teams.
Sarah has been a member of the Hays Rebel Tennis team for three years, playing both singles and doubles. She was a member of the Regional qualifying team in the fall of 2012. Sarah excels not only on the court, but is also in the top 10 percent of her class.
Ricky, also a three-year player, was an important member of the fall Regional qualifying team as well. He has been one of the top players for the Rebels and an alternate to the Regional Tournament this spring, placing third in the Mixed Doubles division with his partner, Caitlin Camp.
“We look forward to a great year next year with Sarah and Ricky helping to form the core of our team. Both of these players exhibit team leadership, are respectful to others, are respected by their teammates, teachers and peers as well as work hard to better their game. Those qualities helped Coach Smith and I make our decision in selecting Sarah and Ricky as our MVPs this year. Sarah and Ricky are part of a strong returning team and we look forward to a great 2012-13 season,” head coach Debbie Cook said.
