Exit Through the Pool House: Vandals attempt their own brand of graffiti art

Neighbors in Leisure Woods are baffled by a mysterious graffiti artist who has an oddly twisted sense of humor. In the most recent incident, a red paint stick-figure in a blue dress holds a bloody ax, while the cursive writing on another wall indicates a gentler message: “Paint this light blue and ill (sic) stop. Sincerely, Fawn!” (Courtesy photo)

In what appears to be a crude imitation of the work of infamous street artist Banksy in the 2010 documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” a graffiti artist, who goes by the name Fawn, has kept the Leisure Woods HOA busy repainting the community pool house walls. But however clever or mildly humorous Fawn’s work, residents of the community in northeast Hays County want the graffiti put to an end. In Texas, graffiti is a Class A misdemeanor if the damage is more than $500 but less than $1,500; it jumps to a state jail felony if the damage is more than $1,500 but less than $20,000. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office was called out each time graffiti showed up on the pool house walls. Sandi Kornfuehrer, a Leisure Woods resident, said law enforcement officers told the HOA they do not believe the work is that of local gangs, which tend to incorporate symbols and names that identify the person committing the crime.
