Parks plan needs your opinions

Buda Parks and Rec

by JACK JONES

The City of Buda has started the process of creating a comprehensive citywide Parks Master Plan to guide future decisions for parks. The new master plan will cover all aspects of parks, recreation, trails and open space, and will serve as a guideline for prioritizing projects and fiscal planning of quality of life enhancements in Buda for the next 5-10 years. This will include the city’s first Trails Master Plan that will map existing city trails, trail connecters, and will outline future trails that will connect parks, schools, neighborhoods and businesses.

For the past month, we have received general input from the public, City Council, and the Parks and Recreation Commission regarding everything related to parks and recreation in Buda. The next step in the master planning process is to survey our citizens. The survey will help us to set priorities for parks, recreation facilities, trails, and open spaces going forward. The survey will be mailed soon to every resident of Buda in your utility bill. The survey can also be easily completed online from the City of Buda website at www.ci.buda.tx.us. As a way of expressing our appreciation for you taking the time to complete the survey, all completed surveys will be entered into a drawing for three $50 Walmart Gift Cards.

If you are unable to complete the survey but still would like to provide input, just send me a quick email at [email protected] and select only ONE answer from the following list of park amenities: Adult-size baseball/softball fields; Basketball courts; Community gardens; Disc golf/Frisbee golf; More preserved open space; Fishing piers; Off-leash park; Shade structures over existing playgrounds; Community swimming pool; More special events/festivals at City Park/Greenbelt; Pavilions for group activities/picnics; More playgrounds; Splash pads/spraygrounds; Sand volleyball courts; More practice fields for baseball/softball and soccer/football; Tennis courts; Public art in parks and along trails; More trails; City-operated indoor recreation center; Skate park; Field lighting at Buda Sportsplex; More trees/shade; Recreational programs such as summer day camp, yoga, pottery, etc.; and BMX biking. If there is nothing on the list that you like, just email me ONE item that you would like to see added to our park system in the future.
