Free concert in San Marcos
The Austin Piazzolla Quintet will play a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at the San Marcos Public Library. The quintet specializes in the music of the late Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla and continues in the Nuevo Tango tradition with unique arrangements of Piazzolla’s classic compositions, breathtaking original works, and talented improvisation.


BBQ and the blues
Tyler Cannon plays his own brand of acoustic rhythm and blues at Milt’s BBQ in Kyle. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21. 



Share Our Strength
Local Front Street bakery, Cake Dreams, is joining the national Share Our Strength Great American Bake Sale project which supports efforts to end childhood hunger in America. The bake sale is from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., April 21-22 and will feature cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies and flan. 108 S. Front Street, Kyle.


Health care for all
CTMC Health Fair, the largest health screening event in Hays County, includes glucose checks, diabetes risk assessments, body mass index, blood pressure, massage, cognitive screening, vision and glaucoma, organ donation information, hearing, mental health and head and neck cancer checks. 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at the Embassy Suites, San Marcos.


Reading at Alkek Library
Author Tim O’Brien, former Viet Nam vet, Washington Post reporter, National Book Award winner and current Endowed Chair for Creative Writing at Texas State will read from his work at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the Alkek Library on the Texas State University campus.


Taking it back
In collaboration with the Buda Police Department, Buda Drug Store is conducting Medication Take Back Week from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 23-27 and will collect unused and expired drugs at the pharmacy located at 203 Railroad Street. On Saturday, April 28 Police Chief Bo Kidd will be on hand to answer questions and assist with the pharmacy program from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
