SUBMITTED REPORT

The 2012 Grand Prix Formula 1 race will take place Nov. 16-18 in Austin.

As regional destinations make final preparations for more than 120,000 race fanatics looking to explore what Central Texas has to offer, the city of Buda Department of Tourism is ready to “rev up” the weekend with events and services signifying we are “closer than you think” to the Circuit of the Americas race track.

The excitement begins Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 11 p.m. with a free concert, sponsored by the city of Buda, featuring The Fabulous Thunderbirds at Buda City Park.

Enjoy a night filled with a blend of Texas blues and southern rock with harmonica-laced swamp blues and R&B. The musical lineup also includes the Jimi Berd Band, Dara Niemi and Charlie Hurtin & the Hecklers.

Getting to the race can be difficult without some careful planning. Avoid the traffic route and reserve your seat for Saturday and Sunday shuttle service. These roundtrip tickets are $25 per person, per day. For pick-up locations, expected arrival and departure times or to make a reservation, contact the Tourism Department at (512) 295-7170. Seating is limited.

If you are looking for an alternative mode of transportation to and from Formula 1 races, fly over the traffic and reserve your seat with McRae Aviation Services, which will be offering helicopter shuttles race weekend from Buda City Park.

While staff will be unable to offer group tours this year, race fans can still experience what Buda has to offer by visiting us at the race. The Tourism Department will have an exhibit at the track, highlighting Buda’s attractions, annual events and year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, while also encouraging race fans looking to host a private event or party to consider Buda and contact our staff.

“We hope visitors will keep Buda in mind for future race events as a place to stay and shop,” said Director of Tourism Alisha Workman.

The city of Buda Department of Tourism is located on 880 Main St. at the entrance to Historic Stagecoach Park.
