KYLE — Veterans Drive will replace West Ranch to Market 150, pending Kyle City Council’s approval.
“This will represent every person and all Armed Forces,” said committee member Priscilla Harrell. “Our veterans, great warriors and fighters. We all know our veterans defend our country and freedom every day.”
Veterans Drive was the favorable choice with a simple majority vote. While the committee must make its recommendation to city council on Feb. 2, it will also recommend that Martin Luther King Jr. Street and Albert Taylor Street be considered for future roads.
“These two names should be prominently considered the next two times the city has a naming issue because we are only going to continue to grow as a city and an area,” said committee member David Glickler. “We are going to get bigger roads and I think we should at least put forth the fact that these two names made it all the way to this vote.”
The committee finished its task earlier than planned, cancelling the Jan. 20 and Jan. 27 meetings. Westbrook provided some final words for her fellow committee members.
“I’m hoping everybody leaves this committee knowing that we put forth a good effort,” Westbrook said. “I so appreciate everybody’s time to come in, to talk with neighbors and citizens of Kyle and come back to represent our community as we have hit the task before us. I am very proud to say that I am very pleased with the name that we selected.”
