SUBMITTED REPORT

The Hays County Commissioners Court presented Marilyn Beal, 20-year chairwoman of the Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission, with a certificate of appreciation for her dedication and hard work on behalf of maintaining and promoting the local landmark. Long-time commission members Cale and Christina Baese were named her successors.

Hays County Historical Commission Chairwoman Kate Johnson praised Ms. Beal saying, “Marilyn Beal has tirelessly worked long hours and given of her time and own money to keep the Claiborne Kyle Log House preserved for us all to enjoy. She has given countless hours to third-graders from Kyle Elementary and ensured that visitors from all over have had the opportunity to visit. She will be missed by all but has sustained a legacy that will forever be in our hearts.”

The double pen, dogtrot log home Lucy Bugg and Claiborne Kyle had built on a bluff overlooking the Blanco River in Hays County still stands where it was constructed in 1850.
