Local officials, public dignitaries and curious onlookers gathered Feb. 2 as Hays County officially opened its new 232,000-square-foot government center.
The three-story building, at 712 S. Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos, consolidates a number of county offices and was built, below estimate, for $63.8 million.
The center provides offices for adult probation, auditor/purchasing, compliance/collections, constable Precinct 1, County Clerk, County Courts-at-Law Nos. 1 and 2, District Attorney, District Clerk, District Courts, Elections, Grants Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology, Justice of the Peace Precincts 1 and 2, Juvenile Probation, Sheriff’s Office Security Division, Tax Assessor-Collector and Treasurer.
The county courthouse on the square in San Marcos remains the official seat of county government and includes offices for the judge, commissioners, the commissioners’ courtroom, veteran services, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
