Grads reach the end of an era
Seniors from across Hays CISD will be hanging up their letter jackets and pinning on their mortar boards as Hays Consolidated Independent School District hosts graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2012.


Hays High School graduation is 8 p.m.  Thursday, May 31, at Shelton Stadium.


The Performing Arts Center will hold the graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. on June 1 for Live Oak Academy.


Lehman High School seniors will walk the stage at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 1 at Shelton Stadium.


Summer choir camp begins
Students from Hays CISD entering grades 4-6 may participate in the Summer Choir Camp, an extension of the Kodály Certification Program. Camps will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 16-20 at the Performing Arts Center. Camp includes field trips to local attractions including swimming and bowling. The cost is $85 per child, which includes all excursions, activities, and bus transportation. The fee does not include lunch or snacks. The final concert will be held at the PAC at 4 p.m. on July 20. Hays CISD Board to meet June 18
Mark you calendar. School may not be in session over the summer, but the Hays CISD Board of Trustees will hold its regular meeting on Monday, June 18 at Lehman High School. The executive session will begin at 5:30 p.m.; the public meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.


Elm Grove begins summer reading program
Register your Eagles by June 1 for the Elm Grove Elementary Dad’s Club Summer Reading Program. June 1-August 21. Visit www.egedadsclub.org for details and to sign up.


San Marcos Academy offers sports camps
San Marcos Academy will offer summer baseball, softball, football and conditioning camps for players age 9 -18. The baseball and softball camp will run 8 a.m. – noon, June 18-21.


The conditioning program will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday – Thursday, June 4-July 20.

Kyle kid receives Second Mile Award
Hank Shirley of Kyle was one of 16 San Marcos Academy students selected as “Second Mile Award” winners for the second quarter of the spring semester. In this school tradition since 1978, teachers nominate students who have given consistent, significant effort. Students who receive four or more nominations receive the Second Mile award. Other award winners are Jorge Serrano, Amber Malone, Rachel Rovner, Tony Shriftman, Savannah Turley and Guy DaRocha.


Kid in Character
Paige Damron, 8, wears her Rapunzel hair as part of the Tobias Elementary Storybook Character Dress-up Day and Parade where kids dressed as their favorite book characters and shared their love of reading. Characters from across the children’s book galaxy were out in force as they paraded up and down the halls.
