Edward Garrett Boone (1937-2012)

Edward Garrett Boone, 74, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 in Kyle after a long illness. Edward was born February 14, 1937 in Houston to Jack Edward Baxter Boone and Dorothy Walker Boone. He attended St. John’s School and graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1955. Edward earned his B.S. in botany from Yale University in 1959.


He married Sandra Sue Turner on June 29, 1968 in Houston. He was able to realize his dream of becoming a pine tree farmer after moving to Nashville, Arkansas in 1979. He was also an avid gardener. He was a longtime member of the Nashville United Methodist Church and later the Kyle United Methodist Church.


He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his closest friend, Walton Sumner, Sr. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his daughter Karen Hayden and her husband Erik, his son Allen and his wife Bobbie, his grandchildren, Owen Boone Hayden, Dylan Garrett Hayden, Storey Alden Parker, Alyson Rose Parker, and Chelsea Brooke Parker; his sister, Ellen Boone Schwethelm, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.


The visitation will be Friday, January 13 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 14 at 10 a.m. at the Kyle United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Barbara Aziz. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service in the church’s Family Life Center.


Thank you to all of those who took care of Edward during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the Alzheimer’s Association.
