Heed the warning signs next time

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

“Turn around – don’t drown” was not heeded by a motorist last Wednesday night at 1 a.m., as he attempted to cross Plum Creek on Gristmill Road. His car was swept against some metal fence post that had been concreted in the ground and stopped the car from being swept down the creek by fast rising water. He awaited rescue sitting on top of his car. Because of the unexpected fast rising water, all barricades had not been placed. I hope he never attempts crossing high water again.

Well, have you saved enough eggshells or did you have to get plastic ones? I never knew there was such a thing as plastic eggs when I grew up. We always had plenty of shells and of various colors, as we raised different breeds of chickens. Jelly beans and once in awhile a penny or nickel was found in the shell that was closed with flour paste and tissue paper. Yep, those were the days, as Ethel said.

Good Friday Church service will be held in St. John Lutheran Church in Uhland at 7 p.m., followed by refreshments of coffee, punch, cookies, etc. and an Easter egg hunt for the children. The eighth and final segment of “Jesus, Legend or Lord,” with Dr. Paul Maier, will be shown. Come join us in the festivities.

Speaking of St. John Church, we still need a part-time organist/pianist. Please contact Charlie Orn at 512-922-7428 for more information.

Mark your calendar on April 22and 29th to welcome and hear Lay Minister David Goeke. Refreshments will be served after the service on April 22 and a carry-in lunch on April 29. Services start at 10:30 a.m. at St. John in Uhland.

Here’s wishing everyone a happy and meaningful Easter.
