What they’re saying: “I think our kids will be very excited about our home opener. We’re playing an Anderson team that’s beaten us two straight years. I don’t think we’ll take them lightly because they lost their opener last week. I think our team will come out ready to play from start to finish,” Hays head coach Blake Feldt.
Players to Watch:
Hays: QB Caleb Kimbro, WR Granger Studdard, OL William Trevillion, OL Reed Darragh, RB Jaxson Schaubhut, DE Kyle Cox, LB Devin Jennings, CB Christian Rodriguez, CB Jared Rodriguez, LB Colin Hubert.
Anderson: RB Deryl Bunton, TE Xavier Garcia, OL Jacob Valdez, LB Blake Allen.
Intangibles: Hays probably could have scored 100-plus points on outmanned Burbank if Coach Feldt hadn’t pulled his starters midway through the second quarter Saturday night. Although Class 5A Anderson didn’t look good in its season opener against McCallum, they are a team that always seems to play Hays tough. Anderson has beaten the Rebels two straight years, and they have a talented running back in Bunton, who had a 97-yard touchdown run and 116 total rushing yards in week one. Look for Hays to get some revenge Friday night at Shelton Stadium, however, as the Rebels will prove to have too many weapons both on offense and defense.
Hays Free Press prediction:
Hays 48, Anderson 14
