Following his taped audition, Hays High School Rebel Band string bassist/jazz bassist Augie Gmitter was awarded first chair in the string bass section of the Texas Music Educators Association All-State 5A Concert Band, though his school band is 4A.
In February 2013, Gmitter will travel with the Hays High band staff to San Antonio, where he will perform at the annual TMEA Clinic and Convention. Band Director Tony Leflet notes that students earning a spot in one of the TMEA All-State performance ensembles represent the top one percent of all music students from across the state.
