Hays County political parties hold conventions

STAFF REPORT

Hays County Republicans and Democrats are set to hold party conventions in anticipation of the 2012 elections.

The Hays County Republican Party has scheduled its state Senate District 21 and 25 conventions for Saturday, April 14, at Hays Hills Baptist Church. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the church, at 1401 N. FM 1626 in Buda.

For information, visit www.haysgop.org.

The Hays County Democratic Party has scheduled its convention for Saturday, April 21, at the San Marcos High School Cafeteria. Members will vote on which delegates it will send to state and national party conventions.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. for the all-day event.

Unlike in years past, the county convention is being held before the primary election, because the state convention is being held about a week after the May 29 primary.

People attending the county convention must register at www.hayscountydemocrats.org.

Keynote speakers are John Adams, who is running for state representative, and the Rev. April Coldsmith, a chaplain at a local hospice.

Also, Thursday is the last day to register to vote in time to cast your ballot in the May 12 school board elections, or other elections around the county. Call the Hays County Election Office at 512-393-7310.

People who have already registered to vote should be getting their voter registration cards by the end of the week or early next week.
