Sidney Sturtz (1911-2012)

Sidney Sturtz, 101, passed away at his home in Manchaca on March 21, 2012. He was born in the Bronx, New York on February 11, 1911, and lived in the New York City area until he retired to the San Diego area with his wife, Dorothy. He was a devoted husband to Dorothy for 49 years until her death in 1985. He was also preceded in death by his lady-friend and world-traveling companion, Adrienne Perlis. Sidney was always interested in and active in sports. In his younger years, he was a minor league baseball player. Until the age of 91 he was an avid golfer. Often, he could be found at the Coronado, Ca. golf course and clubhouse with his many friends. He was a very easy-going sociable person with numerous stories and humorous tales. He was New York City firefighter and after retirement, worked in the lamp industry, both as a sales representative and business owner with a casting company. Sidney was a loving husband and father and is survived by his daughter Laura Sturtz, son-in-law Larry Pilkington, and granddaughter Amber Sturtz. The family will hold a private memorial on Sunday, April 15.
