Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and was able to be with families to join in giving “thanks” for the many blessings we have been given. Even though many of us are experiencing some uncertain times, let’s all pray and hope that all will be all right.

A military memorial service for Mike Clifford was held in St. Paul United Church of Lockhart on Friday afternoon. Pastor Carlson Jakubik performed the service and Navy personnel presented the American flag to wife Roxann. He is survived by Roxann, mother Barbara Varsell, two daughters and their families and brothers and sisters. A luncheon followed the service. Interment was in the military cemetery in San Antonio.

Bill and Ann Alex of Niederwald celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the VFW Hall in Lockhart on Saturday, Nov. 17. The hall was filled with family, relatives and friends. A delicious meal was served, while guests visited, got reacquainted and recalled days gone by. The bride and groom toasted each other with a glass of wine and a cupcake. Delicious cupcakes with various decorations were served. Their four children and families hosted the event. Attending from Uhland were Rick and Terry Kleen and Myrtle Heideman.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, Daniel and Sharon Heideman, Rick and Terry Kleen and Myrtle Heideman drove to Temple to join Herbert and Pauline Schwertfeger for a belated 91st birthday luncheon for Herbert. Don’t forget the musical concert at St. John Lutheran Church of Uhland on Sunday, Dec. 2. A lunch will follow the 10:30 a.m. church service and the concert will be in the church sanctuary after lunch. The public is invited to attend, one and all. Members are asked to bring a covered dish to go with the ham. Hope to see you there and enjoy the service, the lunch and the concert by “Voice.”

This will be the last column that I will write for awhile and maybe the final, depending on my health. I have met a lot of nice people and do appreciate the comments. My thanks to the staff of the Hays Free Press for your help and encouragement, and grateful thanks to Sandra and Connie! Also thanks to you who called in your “news.”
