HEA hosts candidate forum
The Hays Educators Association, the local chapter of the Texas State Teacher’s Association, will host a Hays CISD school board candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Buda Public Library. HEA representatives will ask candidates about their experience, ideas and stance on issues related to the district and education in general. Buda Public Library is located at 303 Main Street in Buda. Hays speech and debate coach earns scholarship
Devi Puckett, a Hays High School speech and debate coach, won a Coach Workshop Scholarship from the National Forensic League to the Texas Debate Collective. She will receive training from top speech and debate educators during summer break. Puckett is one of only 66 recipients from around the country to receive this award, which includes full tuition, room and board. The National Forensic League is a nonprofit honor society that recognizes high school students in speech and debate.
Grad-U-8K race this Sunday
Put on your running shoes for the Project Graduation Grad-U-8K race this Sunday at Bob Shelton Stadium. The five-mile (eight kilometer) timed race begins at 8 a.m. Awards given for the top three male and female runners in eight different age categories. Late registration at Hays YMCA is from 3-6 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday. T-shirts while supplies last. Lil’Rebel 1K Run begins shortly after main race. All proceeds benefit Hays High School Project Graduation.
Lobos receive TLA Media Awards
Six Lehman High School students have received Texas Library Association Media Awards, recognizing excellence in photography or graphic design projects. The Texas Media Awards, a statewide event open to school-aged Texas residents since 1988, promotes excellence in amateur media production. Art teacher Debra Flynn facilitated the project entry process.

Hays CISD kindergarten registration
When registering your child for kindergarten, bring the following items to complete the enrollment process: immunization records, social security card for the child, birth certificate, proof of residency and photo ID of the person enrolling the child. Students must be age 5 by Sept. 1 to register.
