STAFF REPORTS
The Hays CISD school board voted last month to approve the recommendation of the district calendar committee and adopt academic calendars for 2012-13 and 2013-14. In addition, the board approved a switch from grading periods based on six weeks, to grading periods approximately nine weeks each.
The conversion to nine-week based grading period means UIL eligibility dates for students in 6th through 12th grades will be different. Eligibility charts on the new calendars will help parents and students understand the important changes. To ensure secondary students have every opportunity to regain eligibility if they lose it, report cards, progress reports, and eligibility reports will continue to be issued about every three weeks.
Elementary students will receive the reports approximately every four weeks.
State law requires school to start no earlier than the fourth Monday in August. Both calendars have 175 instruction days and 12 days of staff development and teacher workdays.
