A U.S. Foods truck driver was cited Friday morning for failure to control his speed when he collided with a Ford Escape at FM 967 near Cole Springs Road.
The accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. when the driver of the Escape slowed to turn into the driveway of Creekside Villas apartments. The delivery truck was driving in the same lane, according to Buda Police Chief Bo Kidd.
Kidd said the truck failed to control its speed and started to skid crashing into the driver’s side of the Escape and pushing it into a ditch. Both vehicles ended up in the ditch.
“He tried to avoid the wreck by turning left,” Kidd said. “But he ended up crashing into the vehicle.”
The accident report shows that the driver of the Escape, Cheryl Ann Boblick and her passenger Eileen Winifred Stier were taken to Brackenridge Medical Center in Austin. Reports at press time indicate Stier, 88, died from her injuries. The truck driver, Ruben Valenzuela Uresti was not injured.
The accident caused traffic to be diverted for a short period before the road was reopened.
