This has been a busy and happy summer for the Buda Library Summer Reading Program! This program promotes literacy and develops a love of reading. There is still a chance for children of all ages to participate in the remaining programs and turn in reading logs Aug. 4, before 5 p.m.
Currently, more than 200 participants have turned in reading logs and more than 1,300 children have attended the 41 programs. Thirty-eight local businesses have donated various incentive prizes to the children during this time.
Our local Usborne Books consultant, Tamarie Sayger, introduced the library to the Usborne Literacy for a Lifetime matching grant program. Every pre-reader (parents read to them) through sixth grade who has turned in a reading log and attends the awards ceremony will receive a new hardback nonfiction book from Usborne. They will also receive a reading certificate from the State Library and Archives Commission signed by the governor.
The Summer Reading Program Awards Ceremony for Pre-Readers and Early Readers will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Aug. 9. The Chapter Readers through sixth grade will have their ceremony Aug. 9 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The Texas Teen Reads Award Ceremony and Game Night will begin at 5 p.m. Aug. 10.
