Check out the Budafest Book Sale

Check It Out

by ALLEN FISHER

Have you ever wondered what happened in Afghanistan during the Texas Revolution and Republic? Several years ago at a Friends of the Library book sale, I picked up “Beyond the Khyber Pass” (I’m omitting the lengthy subtitle), a superbly informative and entertaining account of the tragic and futile first British attempt to control the place. The Texas frontier was mild by comparison.

My interests run to history and social sciences, but at this year’s Budafest Book Sale (December 1-4, at the library), you’ll find everything from autobiography to zoology, fiction and non-fiction, plus audio-visual items, puzzles and games. From the Thursday and Friday night members-only sales (6-8 p.m. both nights, with membership available at the door) through the full-day Saturday and Sunday public sales, we’ll have literally thousands of books priced by the bag, plus others priced individually.

All proceeds benefit the library, a true community treasure. Its collections and services range from computers and broadband Internet access to children’s programs, job search assistance, current magazines and bestsellers, reference books, community meeting space, e-books, information from and about our government, and much more.

For 20 years, the Friends have expanded the library’s resources by funding additions to the shelves as well as new computer hardware and software. Help us help the library, and get some great reading, viewing and/or listening at bargain prices on First Thursday and through Budafest weekend!
