Police release sketch of Buda bank robber

Buda Police Chief Bo Kidd says: "This is a composite drawing of the Telco robbery suspect. He was seen (without the bandana covering his face) by a witness that observed him around the side of the bank prior to  going inside. No further information is available at this time."

11/16/2011: A masked man walked into a Buda credit union on Tuesday morning, brandished a handgun and demanded cash.

Less than two minutes later, he walked away with a bag full of money – becoming the first bank robber in the one-year history of the Buda Police Department.

“He was in and out,” said Buda police Detective Erika Simmons.

The man stole an undisclosed amount of money from the Austin Telco Federal Credit Union off Cabela’s Drive near Walmart. He was last seen running around the front of the building toward Walmart, then cutting back toward the Hampton Inn and Suites, Simmons said.

Witnesses described him as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s or early 30s. He was wearing a white Texas Longhorns baseball cap, gray hoodie, dark sunglasses and white bandana over his face.

Police captured surveillance footage of the man, and they have pulled video from the surrounding businesses as well, Simmons said.

“We’re in the process of reviewing it,” she added. “As soon as we find something that we can work with, we’ll definitely let everybody know to see if we can’t get this guy.”

Police ask anyone with information to call the department at 512-312-1001.

Before Tuesday’s heist, the most recent bank robbery in Buda came about five years ago and was investigated by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, according to Simmons.
