Candidate Announcements

The following two political announcements are the last of a series submitted by the candidates themselves.

LANE

Bobby Lane seeks election to a second term as Mayor of Buda

I have had the pleasure of calling Buda home for the past 16 years.  This year I will have the honor of completing 11 of those 16 years in service to you as a Councilmember, Mayor Pro-tem and Mayor.  I stand ready to continue to serve each of you by providing a diverse combination of knowledge, skills and abilities to lead Buda in a strong and positive direction.

Buda has achieved a great deal during the past eleven years through improvements to our wastewater treatment plant, obtaining additional supplies of drinking water, implementing our own police department and strengthening the role of our public works department.  We recently brought activities in house that had formerly been contracted out such as planning and tourism.  However, we can’t rest on our laurels.  Now more than ever, we need leadership that can work effectively on a local and regional basis with our neighbors to ensure that we can maintain the quality of life that Buda citizens have come to cherish and expect.  I stand ready to meet the challenges of the future by working with my colleagues and city management to make informed and effective financial and policy-related decisions.

I have supported actions to minimize the impact of local property tax increases on our citizens while maintaining quality services. I support and encourage the Comprehensive Plan update process and stand ready and eager to implement the ideas of our citizens as we chart the future direction for Buda.

I have supported and will continue to support actions to attract commercial businesses that bring quality jobs and products to Buda while minimizing the impact on our daily activities and the environment.  From the commercial district near IH-35 to the Downtown Historic District to each and every one of your homes, I have supported projects that maintain the special charm of Buda.

During my tenure, Buda has benefitted from a number of road improvements that were designed several years ago and are now taking shape due to the efforts of your council and staff to obtain state and federal funding available for these projects.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor during the past eleven years.  I look forward to serving Buda for the next three years.  Your vote counts and I am counting on your vote to keep Buda a strong and vibrant city as we continue our journey as neighbors and citizens in the best city in Hays County; Buda, Texas.  All we are and all we strive to be helps to make Buda the special place we call home.

SELBERA

Becky Selbera seeks re-election to Kyle City Council seat
First, let me say that I am proud to have had the privilege to serve as one of your representatives on your City Council. I am also happy to report that your unwavering support has been the main reason for all that we have accomplished during my tenure on Council. So, in order to continue this important work, I am, once again, asking for your help during this election. Why? Because I love the City of Kyle and its people!

Over the last nine years, I have developed valuable relationships not only with the city of Kyle staff and my fellow council members, but with representative from neighboring municipalities and government agencies. Together, we have worked to ensure balanced growth in Kyle. We’ve achieved some of our goals of bringing in retail and industry to Kyle with improvements to FM 1626 and the associated overpasses both North and South of Kyle Crossing. These efforts have facilitated the retail development that includes your Home Depot, HEB Plus. Target, PetSmart, Kohl’s and Lowe’s, not to mention the siting of Seton Hospital and all of the medical offices in the area.  Make no mistake, it is your investment in our community that brings even more development along the IH-35 corridor. On the other side of town, I see opportunities to develop the South area of District 2 with water and wastewater infrastructure, roads and bringing in projects that will contribute our tax base. As in the past, I am committed to supporting our businesses in downtown Kyle as we’ve have done with the creation of the Kyle downtown restoration project.

As you know, Kyle has an exciting future. We now have a new City Hall, Public Works Building and will soon have a new Library, as well as have invested in the renovation of our, much loved, Old City Hall. We are also in the midst of upgrades to Gregg-Clark Park, which we have programmed to be able to host local football, baseball, soccer and other athletic activities for our kids and families.

Our City needs “experienced leadership” to deal with today’s critical issues, like transportation, planning and economic development. We need people on Council prepared to face these realities head-on so that we can continue to make Kyle THE place where we live, work and play.

As always, I am available to the residents of Kyle with any questions or concerns. You have my pledge to continue as “a voice for family neighborhoods, conscientious participation and your representative on Council. With your VOTE, we can make it happen.”
