The season is almost upon us

Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Here it is, almost Easter. Where does the time go? It was a very short spring season, and we, here in this part of Texas are, at least we should be, thankful that the fires, tornados and other bad weather by passed us, even though we need the rain. Our thoughts and prayers go with all who have suffered.

Sympathy is also extended to the family of David Vrazel, who passed away last week. David not only served his county in the Navy, he was also a volunteer in the Uhland Fire Department for several years. Interment was in the Uhland Live Oak Cemetery.

Word was also received of the death of Joe Jenkins of Apache, Oklahoma. Joe and his wife, Mary, were residents and ranchers in Uhland for many years. After retiring they moved to Apache. Sympathy is extended to the family.

Being “homebound,” it’s always good to have visitors, especially from Las Vegas. Dwight Schwertfeger came by last Tuesday. He was in the area visiting relatives, schoolmates, friends, including his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Cisneros of Lockhart. Brother-in-law, Louis Cisneros, accompanied him.

On Thursday, Leonard and Blanche Kramer of New Braunfels and Adelene Wisian and Clarence Heideman of San Marcos, visited and had lunch. Also stopping by were Terry Kleen and Daniel Heideman. Recalling the “good old times” spent on the farm and Plum Creek were enjoyed.

Leonard reported that Jessie Hauptrief is in a rehab center in New Braunfels recovering from knee surgery. We wish him well.

Welcome back, Elsie Bolton and Rick Tobias, who consented to serve on the Uhland City Council after the unexpected resignation of Gordon Sassman and John Franklin, who served on the city council for many years.

Have you shined your “old” car or truck? The Open Car Show and Barbeque are not far off. According to the flyer in the church news, it will be held May 21 on St. John Lutheran Church grounds. The car show starts at 10:30 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. and serving of the barbeque plates starts at 11:30 a.m. There will also be a silent auction and a raffle for a gas barbeque pit.

Oops! I almost forgot. Due to a conflict of dates, the St. John Lutheran Harvest Festival has been changed to October 15. We will keep you posted.

Happy birthday to Terry Kleen on April 19, Logan Crowell on April 28 and Debbie Moore on April 25. Happy belated birthday to Evelyn Buehring who had her 91st birthday on April 14.

Our prayers and best wishes go with Linda Loep, who was admitted to the Luling Hospital. Get well soon, Linda.
