Schools out for Labor Day
All Hays CISD schools will be closed next Monday, Sept. 5, in observation of the Labor Day holiday. Offices and campuses will all re-open at normal times Tuesday.


WMS 8th grade Athletics Parents to meet
Parents of 8th-grade athletes at Wallace Middle School are invited to a meeting at the school this Thursday, Sept. 1, 5:30 p.m. The one-hour meeting is set for a discussion of guidelines and expectations for athletes and their parents this school year.


Lobo Band BBQ at Market Days
Supporters of the Lehman High School Lobo Band are invited to come out to Kyle Market Days this Saturday, Sept. 3, and enjoy some great Lobo music and barbecue. All proceeds benefit the Lobo Band.


Suns set Open House
Science Hall Elementary School announces its 2011 Open House for Thursday, Sept. 8, 6-7 p.m. Principal Dr. Angela Nelson says, “We’re really looking forward to seeing our Sun families” at the come-and-go event. Kindergarteners and their parents start in the cafeteria, but first through 5th-grade students will escort their families to their classrooms. Teachers will summarize the semester’s goals and how students can be supported at home. Parents will be encouraged to sign up for a visit on October’s parent conference day.


Barton PTA first meeting set
Parents and guardians of any Barton Middle School students are invited to join efforts to support the Bobcats by attending the first general meeting of the Barton PTA Thursday, Sept. 8, 7:30 p.m., in the Barton library. Agenda items include Paws for Fun, a faculty/staff luncheon, fall social, budget amendments, and election of PTA president and treasurer. Babysitting and refreshments will be provided.


EGES/NES Grandparents Day lunches set
A celebratory Grandparents Day Lunch will be served at Elm Grove Elementary School Friday, Sept. 9. Eagles Principal Kathy Faulks advises families to watch the campus website and classroom newsletters for specific times. “We look forward to sharing a great meal with our grandparents – it means so much to our students!”


Negley Elementary hosts its Grandparents Day Lunch Monday, Sept. 12, with the Navigators inviting “all grandparents, great-grandparents, surrogate grandparents and ‘wannabe’ grandparents.” Tickets are sold at the campus front desk as guests check in at the school.


Reb cheerleaders set rally, camp
The Hays High School Rebel Cheerleaders are calling all supporters of the Rebels out to their community pep rally for 2011 Homecoming on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m., at the pavilion in Buda City Park.


The Rebel cheerleaders also are putting out first call on their Li’l Cheer Clinic, set for October 3-6, from 4:15-6 p.m. daily, in the Joe Graham Gym. The clinic is for campers from three-years-old through 6th-grade. Cost is $25 per participant and family specials are available. Campers will receive a t-shirt and will have the opportunity to perform at a high school football game. Chapa Band Night set at Chili’s
The first-ever monthly Chapa Band Night at Chili’s has been set for Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 4 p.m. until closing at the Buda Chili’s. The Cougar Band will receive 10 percent of every ticket generated during the inaugural event and all subsequent events, scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month.
