Buda elects first woman mayor

Buda Bits
by SANDRA GRIZZLE

For the first time in the history of the City of Buda, a woman has been elected as mayor of the city. When the votes were counted last Saturday night, Sarah Mangham had garnered eight more votes than Bobby Lane. Since the initial meeting of the city council of the city of Buda was held on November 8, 1948 and Clem Armbruster was elected mayor, there have been a total of 18 male mayors. So I guess it is time that Buda catches up with Kyle with a woman in command at City Hall. Kyle has elected four women, with the first being Mary Kyle Hartson followed by Merle Wilkins, Sandra Tenorio (now on the Buda City Council) and currently re-elected Lucy Johnson. Congratulations to Mayor-elect Mangham.

A big “thank you” goes out to Bobby Lane who served the city for 11 years as city councilman, mayor pro-tem and mayor.

Also winning a seat on the Buda City Council was Dawn Schaeffer who ran unopposed for Place 5 and Scott Dodd defeated write-in candidate David Stewart to keep his Place 6 seat.
