On Center
by BRENDA STEWART
I guess the only real news around here this week is the election, and I, for one, am glad it’s over. Time to pick up those yard signs and get on with the business of running this town. Luckily we kept the folks in place who were qualified to do so.
There is a special called city council meeting on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at City Hall to canvas the May 14 election results. Then, if you’re marking your calendars, the next regularly scheduled council meeting is June 7. Held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at City Hall, council meetings are now streamed live on the internet as well. You ought to check in on how things are going. It’s not as boring as you’d think.
And speaking of things not being as boring as you would think, the Old City Hall was rocking Saturday night. Not sure exactly what was going on, but when I came up to the Free Press to check on election results, I’m pretty sure I saw a disco ball and strobe lights dangling from the ceiling. It cracked me up.
The first Movie in the Park went off without a hitch. Word from Deidre Flores of Kyle Parks and Rec is: “The weather was perfect to sit outside and watch a great Disney movie, “Tangled.” We had a nice cool breeze come in after the sun went down and it was nice and relaxing watching this movie under the stars. We had about 300 folks show up and it was a great movie. Next one is on June 17, we will be showing, “How to Train Your Dragon”.”
And there you have it. Downtown in a nutshell.
