Cheryl Ann Burkhalter, 55, of Alvin, Texas passed away peacefully at home on June 29 with her family by her side. Cherie was born to James and Virginia Miller on December 31, 1955. She grew up in Kyle, Texas and graduated from Hays High School in 1974 and from Southwest Texas State University in 1977. A testament to her life is the many friends she leaves behind. Cherie was a teacher for 34 years, the last 30 of which were at Stevenson Primary in Alvin. She touched the lives and hearts of many second graders in those 30 years.
Welcoming her to Heaven are parents, James and Virginia Miller; grandparents Pete and Gladys Guttery and Edwin and Gertrude Miller.
Her short battle with lung cancer took her home to Jesus. Celebrating her new life are husband and best friend of 30 years, Jerry N. Burkhalter. She is also survived by daughters, Julie Nicole Hartman and husband Ben of Mansfield and Amy Kyle Aaron and husband Adam of Alvin; sister, Beth Castillo and husband Wally of Kyle. Cherie also leaves many cherished memories to niece, Dodi Salazar of Kyle; nephew, Dallas Stock and wife Sara of Kyle; great nieces, Kenzie Salazar and Madison Stock of Kyle; and great nephews, Koleman Salazar and Mason Stock of Kyle.
A celebration of Cherie’s life was held July 2 at South Park Baptist Church with Brother Robert Horton, Brother Rick Smith and Brother Bruce Peterson officiating.
