Audio books for people on the go

Check It Out

by MARC HUNTER

When having a casual conversation with friends, coworkers or family, and the topic turns to books, I often hear some variation of the following: “I wish I had time to read, but with work and the kids’ sports and dinner and dishes, I’m just too exhausted by the end of the day.” Understandable, as many of us have similarly busy lives with little opportunity for some relaxing downtime. Perhaps you have also lamented on a lack of quality reading time.

Well, if you would really like to read more, the answer is simple – audio books. Take advantage of that time spent on your commute to and from work by listening to that book you don’t have time to read otherwise. Sitting in the car or on the sidelines during your kids practice? Listen to your book. As a matter of fact, get that book “read” while doing the dishes, mowing the lawn, doing the laundry, cleaning the garage, washing the car, painting the house, knitting a sweater, walking the dog, working in the garden...well, you get the idea.

With a wide selection of genres in fiction and nonfiction and availability on CD or downloadable to the MP3 player of your preference, there really is something for everyone. So, next time you’re having a casual conversation and the topic turns to books, you can say something like, “I just read this amazing book...”. Check out the selection of audio books at the Buda Public Library and start reading again.
