Marshall Dayton Fuchs (1947-2011)

Marshall Dayton Fuchs, 64, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2011. He was born in Lockhart on October 5, 1947. The foundation of his life was anchored in the ethics of honesty and hard work in the small country town of Uhland where his parents, A.D. and Caroline encouraged serving God and His Church. Through their ownership of a general store, the Uhland Mercantile, they often bartered services and goods with family and friends to aid in building a strong community. Marshall was a 1965 graduate of Kyle High School, a 1970 graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. He moved to Houston and graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch in 1974. Marshall built a thriving practice in Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, in part by including his wife, Diana, and their children in the practice. He cared tremendously for his staff and greatly loved his patients and their families. Marshall was known for his generosity which often included providing dentistry to individuals unable to pay.

Marshall was proud to be a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and served on the Speakers Committee. He participated in a program that provided presentations to businesses and schools to educate people on the customs and challenges experienced on the trail rides in the days of the “Old West.” Diana enjoyed teaming up with him personified as Annie Oakley. Marshall often expressed his appreciation for membership in numerous organizations such as the River Oaks Men’s Breakfast Club, the Rotary Club of Houston - Bellaire, and The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. He and Diana enjoyed hosting youth Bible studies and participating in church mission projects.

Marshall is survived by his mother, Caroline Frances Schiwitz Fuchs, 93, of San Marcos; his sister, Diane Garonzik and brother-in-law, Lynn Garonzik, nieces and nephews, Jill, Mark and Jennifer and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Adolf Dayton Fuchs. Marshall dearly loved his and Diana’s immediate and extended families.

He is also survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Diana Berry Fuchs; his beloved son, Dayton Alexander Fuchs of Pittsburgh, N.H.; his beloved son and wife, Cody Marshall Fox and Brianna Joy Fox and his delightfully energetic grandson, Caleb Alexander Fox of Sugar Land; and beloved daughter, Brooke Suzann Fuchs of Houston.

Marshall will be remembered and honored for his faith in Jesus Christ, his deep devotion to his family, and his lighthearted humor. He found joy in spending time at his ranch surrounded by family and friends. He will be greatly missed and loved always.

A memorial service to celebrate Marshall’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 11 a.m. at Crosspoint Church, 4601 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, Texas. The burial service will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Uhland Live Oak Cemetery in Uhland, Texas.
