Well wishes from Uhland

Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

What a wonderful early Christmas present. A slow rain for several days brought two to three inches to the Uhland community and even started one of the creeks flowing. No, no creek rose out of the banks, but it’s a start. I know it seems that’s all I write about, but I know how important rain is to the farmers and ranchers, don’t forget the hay and grass raisers and the gardeners. Thanks.

The weather did not deter the festivities in the Uhland Community Center where Robert and Barbara Chastain Hanna celebrated their 50th Golden Wedding anniversary in the beautifully decorated building. Congratulations to Robert and Barbara. We wish them many more.

Members of St. John Women’s Guild are reminded of the Christmas party and luncheon in the home of Barbara Hanna on Saturday, Dec. 12. Please bring a dish of your choice for lunch. Also, don’t forget the food bank. A generous donation was made in October to help the victims of the Bastrop fires.

Raney and Cooper Moore, members of the Kyle 4-H Club, joined in the showing of their pigs. On Saturday they showed in New Braunfels with Cooper showing in the Cougar Classic show and his Duroc won second place and Raney placed second and fourth place, also showing Durocs. On Sunday at a show in Seguin, Raney showed Berkshire hogs and placed first and fourth. Cooper won two fourth places with his “Berks.” These shows were training shows to prepare the youngsters for the major shows beginning in January. Keep up the good work.

Get well wishes go to Ed Daugherty who had ear surgery. Glad to report Jean Collier is able to be out and about. Jean Gallaher is still on the not-so-well list, as well as Raymond Heideman. Let’s keep them in our prayers.

Don Irwin of Houston presented a Christmas piano concert at St. John Lutheran Church on Sunday afternoon. A wonderful performance was enjoyed. A luncheon at the center preceded the concert.
