Jack Leslie Wendt (1955-2011)

Jack Leslie Wendt, 56, of Kyle passed away at his home on Monday, November 28, 2011. A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown.

Jack was born February 10, 1955 in Pecos, Texas to the late Jack and Ima Lee Guest Wendt. Jack graduated from Pecos High School in 1973. During high school, Jack worked alongside his father on the water wells near Pecos, as well serving in the Civil Air Patrol. In 1975, Jack married Jeanne and they were married for 30 years. After high school, Jack attended Tarleton State College, graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1977 and went to work in Stephenville at Rock House as a care provider. That began a long career serving others that Jack was passionate about. In the later 1980s, Jack went to work for Travis County as an Adult Probation Officer. In 1995, Jack became a Facilities Investigator for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Adult Protective Services Program.

Jack was a sci-fi enthusiast, attending sci-fi conventions and meeting the actors and writers of his favorite shows. He was a talented artist, building many models of sci-fi aircraft and, over the years, getting patents on his designs. Jack also enjoyed collecting guns, making ornate knives and collecting coins.

Jack is survived by his sister, Laura Stark and her husband Chuck of Plano, Texas, along with numerous other loving friends and other sci-fi enthusiasts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack’s memory should be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Personal words of comfort may be sent to the family online at www.gabrielsfuneral.com.
