Hays Art Club hosts Empty Bowls
Members of the Hays High School Art Club will host their “Empty Bowls” event Thursday, Dec. 1, 6-8:30 p.m., in the Hays High School cafeteria. The community is invited to join in to help fight hunger by purchasing a handmade ceramic bowl ($10 minimum) that will be filled with pasta or soup provided by local businesses and HHS staff. Paper bowls will also be available for $5 or $3. Talented Hays High students will provide entertainment. Proceeds benefit the Hays County Food Bank and St. Vincent de Paul. Highsteppers have poinsettias for sale
The Hays High School Highsteppers are conducting their annual holiday poinsettia sale through Monday, Nov. 28. Delivery is set for Saturday, Dec. 3. Plants are $12.50, cash or check (payable to Hays Activity Fund #293) at the time of order. To place an order, contact any Highstepper parent or email Amanda Bodine at [email protected] .


Lobo Mariachi Winter concert set for Dec. 6
The Lehman High School Mariachi Winter Concert and fundraiser is set for Tuesday, Dec. 6, with a $4 dinner scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and the evening concert at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Lehman High School cafetorium. The dinner will include crispy tacos, rice, beans, garnish, and tea, and a “Sweet Shop” will sell baked goods. The concert will include mariachi students from Simon, Wallace and Chapa Middle schools, as well as Lehman High School.


Blanco Vista hosts Santa, bazaar
Blanco Vista Elementary School will host a breakfast with Santa and a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 3, 8-11 a.m. Vendors with arts and crafts items are invited to participate, with a nominal fee of $10 for a reserved slot at the event. Hays Classic Debate Tourney a success
The recent Hays High School-hosted Hays Classic Debate Tournament was a huge success, according to organizers. The Rebels hosted 26 schools and well over 500 students from across the state. Coordinators Devi Puckett and Erin Stage thanked all those who had a hand in making the event a great show.


Scouts collect toys for Brown Santa project
Troop 967 Scouts will be collecting toys at the Saturday, Dec. 3, Budafest for the Hays County Brown Santa drive. The troop will be set up to receive donations at the Du Pre Emporium on Main Street. Brown Santa is annually conducted by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department, the drive gathering toys, food and funds for Hays County families in need. Hundreds of area families are served each year. Fuentes fundraiser features Del Castillo
The Fuentes Elementary School music program and glee club will host a Wednesday, Dec. 14, fundraising concert by Del Castillo and No Strings Attached in the FES cafeteria. Tickets are $5 and concessions will be available. The bands are donating their time and talents to the cause, according to Fuentes music teacher Kristopher Brown, and tickets are being sold at the FES office, through Glee Club members, or through Brown.
