The local D Squad basketball team comprised mostly of JV and varsity girls from Hays and Lehman enjoyed a successful summer.
They played a total of seven tournaments this summer including two showcase tournaments with college scouts in attendance and performed very well. In addition to local tournaments, the team traveled to Katy, Corpus Christi and College Station.
The girls brought home medals in five of the seven tournaments, including a gold medal for winning the Liberty Hill tournament. The big event for the girls this summer was the Premier Basketball Tournament at Texas A&M-College Station. The D Squad beat teams from Houston and Dallas and proved to many scouts that Central Texas basketball players know the game.
“More importantly than winning games, I enjoyed seeing communities being brought together,” said head coach Frederick Coy. “They will no longer look at each other as enemies, but as friends and fellow competitors simply playing for bragging rights.”
