Patricia Ann (“Patt”) Hubert, 80, retired public school teacher and “true burnt orange” UT Longhorn sports fan, passed away peacefully in her home in Mountain City on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. She was born September 16, 1931 in Sweetwater, Texas, to Annie Lou Chapman and Ted Moore and later, in 1947, was adopted by her stepfather, Lee W. Truitt. In 1951, she was introduced to Warren Naumer (“Pete”) Hubert of Dallas at a meeting of the Amateur Radio Club of Grand Prairie, and on February 25, 1952, Patt and Pete were united in marriage, a “couple of Ham’s (Ham Radio Operators)”, in a nationally televised wedding ceremony in New York City, NY.
Patt received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Biology and her Master of Education degrees from North Texas State University. She chose to be a public school teacher, a career spanning 25 years: Dallas ISD (1967-70), David W. Carter HS; Duncanville ISD (1970-84), WH Byrd Junior High; Cedar Hill ISD (1984-86), Cedar Hill Middle School; and Johnson City ISD (1988-93), LBJ Intermediate/Elementary School. She loved teaching and was always thrilled to hear from one of her ‘favorites’, many of whom would call, write and visit, just to “check in with Ms. Hubert”.
She was preceded in death by her parents and, in 1994, by Pete, her husband of 42 years.
She is survived by her daughter Penny Tisdale and her husband James of Austin, and by her son Perry Hubert and his wife Debi of Buda; grandchildren Melannie Tisdale, Patrick Tisdale, Nicole Tisdale, Christopher Hubert and his wife Natalie, Kevin Hubert, Colin Hubert and Caleb Hubert; and great-grandchildren Lilyanne Tisdale, Danielle Ray, Caitlynn Tisdale and Joseph Tisdale.
Funeral services were held at Harrell Funeral Home of Kyle on Friday, September 30. Graveside services were held Monday, October 3, at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville, TX, with reception following.
