Geronimo Garza (1955-2011)

Geronimo Garza, 55, was born to Frances and Epifanio Garza (both of whom preceded him in death) in Buda in 1955. One of 9 brothers and sisters Lucia Hernandez, Rogelio Garza, Andrea Garza, Geronimo, Robert Garza, Sylvia Skorupa, Oscar Garza, Teresa Salazar and Alex Garza and a huge happy extended family.

He lived most of his life in Dripping Springs where he met his “whole world,” his “doll” Josie. They married in 1973, she was 15 and he was 17. They spent 38 long happy years together raising their family.

Geronimo enjoyed participating happily in the lives of his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family friends. He loved gardening, singing, and storytelling and loved hearing the sound of his children at home. In recent years one of his favorite activities was attending baseball and softball games to watch and loudly cheer on his grandchildren and family friends. Whether walking, walking with a cane, being pushed in a wheel chair or having to sit in his car to watch, he was devoted to making it to the fields. There was nothing he enjoyed more except maybe his wife’s cooking.

Geronimo is survived by his wife Josie, his youngest daughter and singing partner Samantha Rose and his namesake and only son Geronimo Epifanio. His eldest daughter Christine Harrington and his son in-law Nathan Harrington with whom he always credited with giving him the two best gifts ever: his grandson Hunter (his pride and joy) and his granddaughter Isabell Blue (his smile).

Geronimo, his wife, children and grandchildren are all residents of Kyle. The family would like to thank the numerous extended relatives, friends, co-workers and acquaintances that have over the last three and half years, extended a kind gesture, word or prayer during their struggle. Florals may be sent to Harrell Funeral Home of Kyle. Monetary donations may be donated to his grandchildren’s college trust accounts. Call Nathan at 512-775-1761 for account information.

Catholic services were held at Harrell Funeral Home and at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Kyle. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wimberley.
