Ready for some football?

Kyle Parks & Recreation

by KERRY URBANOWICZ

The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department is. But not the kind they play on Friday nights, Saturday afternoons or all day on Sundays. We are talking about the kind of football they play on Tuesday nights – adult flag football.

This fall, on Tuesday nights, at the Gregg-Clarke Park Sports Complex, teams will strap on their flags as they compete for a spot in the state championship. As a member of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, all teams playing in the Kyle League will have a chance to represent Kyle in the TAAF State Championship in Brownsville in December.

This first year, the Parks Department will offer a Men’s Division playing through TAAF rules under the “Class B” 8 X 8 league (8 on offense and 8 on defense) and we are limiting the league to the first 8 teams that complete the registration process. Games will begin the 4th of October and conclude the end of November. Registration is open now so gather up to 20 friends and sign up your team.

Are you the type of person that would like to toss a yellow flag on a green field and blow a whistle? The Kyle Parks & Rec Flag Football League will also need referees for these games. A TAAF Referee Training and Certification course for those over 18 years of age will be offered in September.

For more information including the playing rules for TAAF & Kyle PARD Flag Football, the league forms, umpiring opportunities or answers to your questions, please contact Recreation Program Coordinator Sarah Grady at (512)262-3931 or email [email protected].
