Kyle man molests girl during hide-and-seek
A 27-year-old Kyle man was arrested Monday for the aggravated sexual assault of a child while he played hide-and-seek with the victim, authorities say.
Luis Soriano, Jr. admitted to police that he sexually assaulted a young girl, who is under the age of 14, when they were hiding in the bathroom of an abandoned apartment in the 200 block of South Meyer St. in Kyle, an affidavit used to secure an arrest warrant states.
Soriano is a neighbor of the girl, whose mother notified police of the abuse that allegedly occurred on April 6, according to the affidavit by Kyle police Detective Diane Talamantes.
The first-degree felony charge carries a punishment of two to 99 years in prison. Soriano remains in custody at Hays County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
Hays jury convicts Buda man of ongoing child sexual abuse
A Hays County jury convicted a 20-year-old Buda man for the continuous sexual abuse of a young child, the Hays County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.
Steven Anthony Almager was found guilty Thursday for the ongoing child sexual abuse over a two-year span while he lived in the victim’s Buda home. Almager is originally from Midland, court records show.
The victim, whose gender was not disclosed, is under the age of 14.
In the trial, evidence revealed that Almager had a history of physical abuse not only toward the victim but also the victim’s siblings and their pets, the district attorney’s office says.
The jury took less than an hour to return the guilty verdict. Almager has elected District Judge Charles Ramsay to determine his punishment, which could range from 25 years to life in prison. His punishment hearing is slated for May 24 at the 22nd District Court in San Marcos.
Due to the nature of the offense, he will be ineligible for parole and must serve the sentence in its entirety, the DA’s office says.
