STAFF REPORT
Hays CISD is seeking public input as it begins the process of redrawing its five single-member school board districts.
To begin the process of redrawing the districts, a 13-member redistricting advisory committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Founders Meeting Room of the Hays CISD Central Administration Building, 21003 Interstate 35 in Kyle.
The committee is working with an attorney and demographer who has already developed a general draft plan for the committee’s consideration.
According to federal law, the school district’s single-member districts must be redrawn every 10 years to evenly distribute population, and they must not weaken minority voting strength. Once the committee has decided on a new map, it will recommend it for school board approval.
Hays CISD Board of Trustees is made up of five trustees who are elected from single-member districts and two trustees who are elected at-large.
