STAFF REPORT
Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church will dedicate a garden on July 10 in memory of longtime Wimberley physician Bill Greer, who died in February last year.
After 23 years as a U.S. Navy doctor, Greer opened a medical practice in the valley in 1978 and for several years was the area’s only doctor. He became Deer Creek Rehabilitation Center’s first medical director when the facility opened and saw patients at his private practice in the afternoon until his retirement in 2004 at the age of 80.
“It seemed that once a week a Deer Creek nurse would call Bill in the middle of the night, and he would jump out of bed without complaint and drive over there,” said Carlene Greer, his wife of over 60 years.
The church will dedicate the Greer Family Cloister at a ceremony immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service at the church, 6000 FM 3237. A reception will follow at McArthur Hall.
