Dorys Elaine Loewer Wiegand (2011)

Dorys Elaine Loewer Wiegand, 81, died November 20, 2011. She married Joe Weigand of Kyle in the early 1950s and the couple lived in Kyle and attended the Immanuel Baptist Church before moving to Jennings, Louisiana, where Dorys’s parents Arthur and Mary Schmeltekopf Loewer and their family lived. Dorys’s younger sister, Mary Martha Loewer, later married Rex Weigand of Kyle, and Joe and Dorys made many trips to Kyle over the years to visit family and friends here. Their great pride was in their four daughters, Brenda (born in Kyle), Daphne, Melissa, and Claire, and their families. Besides her devotion to her family, Dorys devoted many hours of service to her community and church in Jennings, serving on the library board, as a hospital Pink Lady, with the PTA, and on the Board of the Louisiana State Baptist Convention. She was best known for her loving, generous spirit, quick wit, and ready laugh, and kept her family’s German traditions alive especially in baking and sharing coffee cakes and honey cookies.

Funeral services for Dorys were in Jennings, LA. She was buried at Live Oak Cemetery (Uhland, Texas) on Nov. 23 beside her beloved Joe, who died in September 2010. She is survived by her four daughters and their families: Brenda (and Barry) Williams, Springfield, MO; Daphne (and Mark) Anderson, Springfield, MO; Melissa (and Shannon) Hall, St. Francisville, LA; and Claire (and Joel) James, Mandeville, LA. Her grandchildren are Stephen (and Shelby) Williams, Peter Williams, Joe Anderson, John Anderson, Madelyn Hall, Andrew Hall, Kathryn James and Julia James. Also surviving Dorys are her sisters Carolyn Gearhart, Annette Lindsey and Mary Martha Wiegand, and two brothers, Harold and Frederick Loewer.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name.”
