Author to read in Kyle, San Marcos

George Saunders, author of three short story collections including the bestselling “Pastoralia,” will give a reading and book signing at Texas State University at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14 and another in Kyle at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 15.


The April 14 event will be held in the Wittliff Collections on the 7th floor of the Alkek Library on campus. The April 15 event will be held at the Katherine Anne Porter House in Kyle. The readings, co-sponsored by the Therese Kayser Lindsey Reading Series, the Department of English and the the Wittliff Collections, are free and open to the public.


Saunders’ collection, “CivilWarLand in Bad Decline,” is a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award, and “In Persuasion Nation” was one of three finalists for the 2006 Story Prize for best short story collection of the year. “Pastoralia” and “CivilWarLand in Bad Decline” were both New York Times  Notable Books of the Year. Saunders is also the author of the illustrated fable, “The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil,” and the New York Times bestselling children’s book, “The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip,” illustrated by Lane Smith.
