UPDATE: When the story was reported, the number of infections counted on the Hays CISD COVID dashboard was 65 active cases in the school. The number of active cases is 74 as of the district's latest update this evening.
An entire school campus in Hays CISD has closed down due to the spread of COVID-19.
On Wednesday, Sept. 15, Tobias Elementary School closed down because more than 10% of students and staff have COVID-19. Tobias has 65 active cases. The campus will be closed until Monday, Sept. 20, according to the HCISD COVID dashboard.
When 10% or more of a classroom or school population has COVID-19, the class or school goes into remote conferencing. Tobias Elementary had nine classroom closures since Sept. 7. There has been a total of 19 classroom closures since the beginning of the school year in HCISD.
Beside the campus closure, there are two other classes in Negley Elementary School and Chapa Middle School that are closed and in remote conferencing.
In HCISD, there is a total of 231 active COVID cases among students and 32 active cases among staff. Since the beginning of the school year, there have been 667 cumulative COVID-19 cases in HCISD.
