Margarita Perez Mercado, our beloved mother, of Kyle, passed peacefully, with her family at her side in prayer, on Wednesday Feb. 23, 2011 in Seton Hospital of Kyle. Born July 20, 1935 in Martindale, Margarita will be remembered as a loving, kind, caring and gentle mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She has been reunited with her husband Victor Mercado Sr.; parents Luis and Maria de la Luz Morado; brothers Luis Jr. and Juan Morado and sister Sabina Morado.
Margarita was a homemaker, focused on her family, her church and friendship to all who knew her. A longtime and devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, she enjoyed many aspects of church life and volunteering, along with a passion for playing bingo, watching novelas, gardening, bird watching (cardinals) and saying daily devotional prayers. Margarita was a strong-willed woman with a loving heart and always made sure her children were well cared for.
Survivors are sons Victor Mercado Jr. and wife Jana of San Marcos, San Juan Mercado, Paul Mercado and wife Becky, Tony Mercado and wife Diane and Lupe Mercado and wife Veronica; daughters Julie Mercado, Maria Samaro and husband Mike, all of Kyle, and Herminia Alvarez and husband Sammy Sr. of Lockhart. She was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with numerous friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, February 28, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Rev. Father Matthew Kinney officiated. Interment followed at San Juan Cemetery in Reedville. Serving as pallbearers were Lupe Mercado, Sammy Alvarez Jr., Mike R. Samaro, Jesse Cruz, Israel Mendoza Jr., Sammy Alvarez Sr., Michael Samaro and Paul Mercado Jr.
The Mercado family would like to give their thanks and gratitude to Thomas Perez and wife Anastacia of San Marcos, Lupe Guerrero of San Antonio, Vicente Perez of Lubbock, friends of St. Anthony’s Church and Los Angeles Funeral Home for their warmth, support and kindness toward our mother.
