Lobos compete at Leadership Conference

Lehman High School Spanish IV students and Student Council members recently took part in the National Hispanic Leadership Conference in Austin. The Lobo participants enjoyed workshops in leadership, networking and social cultural awareness, as well as a competition to create a commercial plan to sell Nissan Versas. On an early December morning, students from Lehman High School Spanish IV class and the Lobo Student Council attended the National Hispanic Leadership Conference in Austin at the Doubletree Hotel. The students participated in workshops that taught them the value of leadership and networking skills, and social cultural awareness that will help them with interviews and the college application process.


The students were invited by J.R. Gonzales, a talk show host for the 501 News Latino Show and president of the National Hispanic Business Association in Austin.


The participating Lobos took part in a competition to sell a Nissan Versa and created an advertising plan using media outlets other than TV. The students presented the plan to the judges, with the following results:


1st place – Desiree Kittel, Isai Ramirez, Irma Saldana, Lauren Lumague, Angelica Aguirre


2nd place – Liz Nicholson, Carlos Rocha


3rd place – Matt Cruz, Meagan Liste, Evan Flores, Alfredo Sifuentes, Chris Lumbreras


3rd place – Joshua Banbury, Devin Narzullo, J.D. Roberts, Alisha Amundson, Uby Villalpando


Honorable Mention  - Linda Quinonez, Delia Castillo, Brian Bell, Kat Mohle


Other participating Lobos included Marco Garcia, Francisco Garcia, Josue Moreno, Abioham Rodriguez, Ashley Jimenez, Tori Van Wart, Breanna Alonzo and Chris Villarreal.


Claudia Vasquez is a Spanish teacher in the Lehman High School Foreign Language Department.
