Hornets learn from SIFE

Fifth grade Tom Green Elementary students in Ann Ybarbo’s G/T class enjoyed an extended unit of study with Texas State junior business management major Shelby Jacoby and marketing major Jason Herbrich. Both Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) members, Jacoby and Herbrich spent weeks coordinating a unit for the Hornets about free enterprise and entrepreneurship. One day a week they were taught how to profitably sell a product and learned financial responsibility concepts, as well as marketing vocabulary. With TSU student help, the TGES students ran their school store, Buzz Buy, every Friday. Twenty-five percent of the store’s profits were donated to Japan’s tsunami relief.

Rangers enjoy Space Day

A group of Wallace Middle School Rangers recently participated in a NASA-sponsored “Space Day” at the Texas Capitol. Holly Cass reports the event included speaker presentations and a number of interactive exhibits. Among the most memorable happenings on the “exciting and educational day” were pictures with astronauts and getting the chance to touch an actual moon rock.
