‘Tis the season… so start planning

Kyle Parks & Recreation

by KERRY URBANOWICZ

The holidays will be here sooner than you think. The seasonal sections of stores are quickly replacing Halloween candy with candy canes, and pumpkins are being replaced with twinkling lights.

Kyle Parks and Recreation Department has been setting out holiday decorations throughout the downtown area preparing for November 30. What, you say, is so special about the Wednesday after Thanksgiving? Why, that is when Santa arrives in Kyle to help flip the switch on all the lights in and around City Square Park.

After school on November 30, the Kyle Fire Department will take Santa on a tour of Kyle to hand out candy canes to all the good little boys and girls in town. Once they finish their tour, the fire trucks will bring Santa to Historic Kyle City Hall in Mary Kyle Hartson Kyle City Square Park in downtown. Hays CISD school choirs will perform at the gazebo beginning at 4:40 p.m. and entertain the folks gathered in the park until 9 p.m.

Beginning around 4:45 p.m., Santa will visit with the children and parents are welcome to bring cameras for pictures with Santa. At 6:05 p.m., Santa will make his way to the gazebo and help the city flip the switch to the power that lights up the city Christmas tree and all the holiday lights in town. At 8:30 p.m. it will be time for Santa’s elves to whisk him off to the North Pole.

Throughout the evening, children will be able to write a card to a soldier or a letter to Santa, do arts and crafts activities and play fun games. Food and drink vendors will be set up as well to help you bring in the spirit of the season.
