Science Hall Open House Thursday
Science Hall Elementary School Open House welcomes parents this Thursday, Sept. 8, 6–7 p.m. Principal Angela Nelson says, “We’re really looking forward to seeing our Sun families” at the come-and-go event. Kinder students and their families start in the cafeteria. First through 5th-grade students are set to take their families to their classrooms. Teachers summarize the semester goals, how students can be supported at home, and will encourage parents to sign up for a visit on October’s parent conference day.

First Barton PTA meeting Thursday
The Barton Middle School Bobcats invite their families to join efforts to support the Bobcats by attending the first general meeting of the Barton PTA Thursday, Sept. 8, 7:30 p.m., in the Barton library. Agenda items include Paws for Fun, a faculty/staff luncheon, fall social, budget amendments, and election of president and treasurer. Babysitting and refreshments will be provided.


Camino Real Open House Thursday
Camino Real Elementary School hosts its 2011 Open House this Thursday, Sept. 8, from 6–7 p.m. Parents are invited to join their Roadrunners for an evening of meeting teachers, discussing general plans for the year and plans for October parent conferences. Just prior to the Open House, the campus hosts a 5:30 p.m. NCLB (No Child Left Behind) meeting, with parents invited to hear how the school will spend 2011-2012 Title I funds, a brief update on the new state STARR assessment, review the campus report card and share the new School-Family Compact.


Effort to bring star to Wallace needs votes
Wallace Middle School PTA President Barbara Dole is spearheading an effort to bring recording star Jordin Sparks to Kyle for a show at Wallace Middle School. The competition to win the visit is sponsored by the People to People organization, and entails computer votes being tabulated for each registered school—by midnight on Friday, Sept. 16. Vote at www.ptpSparks.com/vote/.


Grandparents Day plans slated
Buda Elementary hosts its Grandparents Day Breakfast this Thursday, Sept. 8, in both campus cafeterias at 7:15 a.m.


Elm Grove Elementary hosts its Grandparents Day Lunch this Friday, Sept. 9. Check the campus website for lunch times. Chapa Middle School is also hosting a Grandparents Day Lunch this Friday, 11 a.m–12:35 p.m. A special place on stage will be available for families to eat together.


Science Hall Elementary hosts a Grandparents Day Breakfast next Monday, Sept. 12, 7:15–7:45 a.m., and Negley Elementary hosts a Grandparents Day Lunch the same day. Three dollar lunch tickets will be sold at the campus front desk as visitors check in at the school. Visitors are advised to arrive 30 minutes prior to their lunch. The Navigator 2nd-grade starts lunch at 10:25 a.m., and subsequent lunches for 3rd, 1st, Kinder, 5th and 4th follow, in order, at approximately 35-minute intervals.


Kyle Elementary hosts two consecutive days of Grandparents Day Lunches, with students from the 1st, 2nd and 4th-grades having their grandparents in next Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Kinder, 3rd and 5th-graders hosting grandparents Thursday, Sept. 15. Fuentes Elementary hosts its Grandparents Day Breakfast Wednesday, Sept. 14, 7–7:40 a.m.


Howdy Hays set for Monday
Annual Howdy Hays Open House activities at Hays High School are set for next Monday, Sept. 12, 6:30–8 p.m. in the Rebels’ cafeteria. Following a brief general meeting, parents will be encouraged to visit their students’ classroom and meet teachers.


Lobo Open House Monday
Lehman High hosts its Open House next Monday, Sept. 12, 6-8 p.m. A question/answer session in the cafeteria opens the evening, then classrooms will open at 6:30 p.m. Students and parents may visit any classroom they choose. The Lobo administration requests that extended conversations concerning individual students be scheduled for later appointments.


Academy sets Open House
Live Oak Academy hosts its 2011 Open House next Tuesday, Sept. 13, starting at 6:30 p.m. Austin Community College will be on hand, parents will get log-ins for the parent grading portal, and hot dogs and s’mores will be served.


Negley Chick-fil-A Next Tuesday Night
The Negley Elementary School PTA offers its Chick-fil-A Night fundraiser next Tuesday, Sept. 13, 5–9 p.m., with the parent support group earning 10 percent of all proceeds (15 percent if over $1000). The Negley PTA also hosts a general meeting at the Navigators’ campus the same evening at 6:30 p.m.
