HCISD starts online registration

STAFF REPORT

Long lines and repetitive forms have long been an irritant to Hays CISD parents registering their students for class each year. The district says those annoyances will be a thing of the past for most  people with the introduction this year of an online registration system.

Once signed into the system, parents will be able to view their child(ren)’s information, add additional contacts for emergency, and add emergency information relating to health conditions and allergies. Parents will be able to electronically sign the forms needed for student confidentiality (FERPA), student handbook, and other necessary back-to-school forms. The process won’t eliminate all paperwork, administrators say, but will help reduce the burden.

The Online System will be open to all Hays CISD Parents from July 1 through Aug. 26. Beginning mid-July, campuses will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will have staff available to assist parents with the online registration process. Computer labs on the campuses will be open beginning August 1 for any parent who wishes to come to the campus to fill out the online form using a district computer. Parents can also utilize campus computers during a special ‘late’ night on Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. or ‘early’ on Aug. 5 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the online registration.

Beginning July 1, parents should go online at www.hayscisd.net/Student-Registration and click on the Online Registration link to create their own login. A parent must know at least two of three pieces of information (Social Security number/state ID number, local student ID or lunch number and/or date of birth) about their child in order to obtain access to their child’s record.

Information that may be entered in the online system will include parent phone numbers and email address, additional contacts, medical conditions, and allergies.  Parents will be able to electronically sign most of the required registration forms.

Once a parent completes the online registration, a ‘FastPass’ will be generated that the parent can print and bring to the campus for the back-to-school event and/or schedule pick-up. By having this ‘Fast Pass’, parents will spend less time filling out required forms and will be able to proceed through the schedule pick-up and other back-to-school activities more quickly.

Students new to Hays CISD must still register in person at the appropriate campus. The New Student Enrollment Pack can be downloaded now and filled out at home to save time. Families with new students should contact their home campuses directly.
