Over the past few weeks, Hays CISD Agricultural Mechanics students at Hays High, Johnson High and Lehman High quite literally made the cut as they constructed numerous wooden picnic tables for use at all of the district campuses.
This project was the inspiration of Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright, who presented the idea of crafting picnic tables for outdoor learning and more to the Hays CISD School Board. Helping to make this project possible was the Lowe's in Kyle who assisted by providing discounted materials to complete this project. When all is said and done, 150 total tables will be constructed by the Hays CISD Ag Mechanics students.
Johnson High Ag Mechanics built 66 tables and Hays and Lehman high Ag Mechanics will build 42 tables each. Ultimately, each of the district's 25 campuses will receive six picnic tables for use in their outdoor classroom spaces and/or added eating areas at the middle and high schools.
Coordinating this effort was the Hays CISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department, led by Director Suzi Mitchell, and CTE Workforce Development Coordinator Joe Henderson.
